Looks very promising, Ben. Thanks for the tip. I read the website and it says Rusutsu Resort is Hokkaido’s No.1 ski resort and is only 90 minutes away from New Chitose Airport. I checked this website on how to get there. Very handy tips for my next ski trip.

Beijing Capital International Airport reopened its smoking lounges at three terminals on December 1, after being inundated by complaints from nicotine-craving customers who were robbed of a place to light up while waiting for their flights. Now, each terminal has at least two smoking lounges. The cave-in to smokers’ demands comes five months after the airport closed all 36 lounges on World Tobacco Day on May 31 2011. This was reported in the Global Times Dec 2011. Great news for smokers !

If i remember correctly, Terminal 2 at Pudong Airport, Shanghai has a smoking room even with lighters which smokers are not allowed to take.

There is a smoking area at Sydney airport. Couldn’t believe it. So happy.
It’s in a cafe before you go through customs and immigration . They have a large area where you can get a coffee, food and smoke. It has an open air area this cafe. What’s the name of it? Sorry cant remember . But look out for it. Someone at the airport will know.

Teine is also one my favourite ski areas around Sapporo. I go here most weekends, otherwise its Rusutsu.

I was born in Wiesbaden and lived there for many years. It really is a beautiful city, and everyone who has a chance to visit should do so. There are many things to do and see. I wish the author here had gone on the Nerobahn. To this day, it’s still among my favorite things to do.

I just read that the log cabin houses in Rusutsu are awesome. There is an early winter season deal that includes a one night stay, a two day ski pass, unlimited access to the onsen (hotspring), a breakfast buffet, swimming pool, and a return bus journey from Sapporo Japan. All this for the bargain price of, wait 8,800 yen! The deal is only available from the end of November until the middle of December so usually around this time snow is scarce. If you are only going for the skiing, then I wouldn’t bother. The real reason to go is for staying in the cabin with a group of friends. The skiing is just a bonus. Just built snowmen and lazed around for the trip and have a great time!

The susukino site has lots of beautiful ice sculptures and you can sit under tents and drink hot sake and take photos with girls who have entered the Susukino Queen of the Ice competition. I did!
