Are you a fan of Star Wars? If you are, you will not regret visiting George Lucas Star Wars Headquarter.
I used the PresidiGo Downtown Shuttle to get to the George Lucas Star Wars Headquarter. It is free to the public between 9:30 am and 4 pm, Monday to Friday. All shuttle vehicles are fully accessible and include bike racks. There are two PresidiGo Shuttle service. http://www.presidio.gov/visit/transportation/Pages/shuttle.aspx
There are also several SF MUNI routes provide service to or near the Presidio (1, 28, 29, 41, 43, and 45). Riders can
use these lines to get to the park and then walk or transfer to the free PresidiGo Around the Park Shuttle to reach their final destination. The Around the Park Shuttle is also free and available to visitors. It runs from 6 am to 7 pm on weekdays, and 11 am to 7 pm on weekends.
Entry to the George Lucas Star Wars Headquarters is free.
This building is commonly known as the Letterman Digital Arts Center (LDAC), which is now the headquarters of Industrial Light and Magic and LucasArts. Lucas Learning Ltd, Lucas Online, and the George Lucas Educational Foundation also reside at the site. The first thing I wanted to see when I arrived at this site is Yoda. I didn’t realize that it is just a fountain with Yoda at the top. Neither Yoda nor the fountain is big in size. I was sort of disappointed but when I realized that the size of Yoda is actually the full size as what it appears in the movie, I finally appreciate the size of both sculptures. When you are there, don’t forget to visit the office where the Star Wars figures are located. It is open to the public. It is basically just a big office with quite a few Star Wars figures and other objects of interest. In my opinion, this is a great place to see characters from Lucas films. You can take as many photos with your favorite Star Wars (full scale) characters.
The campus is also beautiful. I would recommend walking around if you are ever in the area. You can sit and admire the green lush lawn and magnificent view while sipping your Starbuck coffee.
Tips:
George Lucas Star Wars Headquarters or Letterman Digital Arts Center is probably a place you can miss out if you have limited time in San Francisco. However if you visit George Lucas Star Wars Headquarters, you must visit the Presido and the Walt Disney Family Museum.
