At Insa-dong, you can find everything related to the culture of Korean such as Hanbok (Korean Traditional Wear), hand-made ceramics, and antique shops.
At both ends of Insadong pedestrain street, you will find baskers and entertainers, both Western and Korean styles & music.
You can also enjoy lovely scupltures at Insadong.
And for tea-lovers, you can visit Korean traditional tea houses along the streets of Insa-dong and join the queue and taste of different Korean teas for free.
There are quite a few art galleries here as well. This is considered to be one of the best cultural and artistic neighbourhood in Korea.
To me , Insadong is the great place to buy that souvenir for friends and family back home. I ask for a 20% discount when I purchase several items at a single stall and I was lucky.
Insa-dong is located at Anguk Station (Seoul Subway Line 3), Exit 6.
Go 100m straight, then turn left.
OR
Jonggak Station (Seoul Subway Line 1), Exit 3.
Go straight 300m, and turn left at the 4-way Intersection.
Go straight 100m, and take the left road towards Insadong-gil.
To me, visiting Insa-dong, is for people watching and enjoying the hustle & bustle of a busy and vibrant street and enjoying the local snacks.
People Watching at Insadong, Seoul, Korea
Street vendors sell corn hotteok (pancake with honey and sugar inside) and other traditional desserts and snacks.
Don’t miss out on the famous shopping mall, famous not because of its size but for it quaint little shops,a walking ramp and the love corner. It is located at the centre of Insa-dong. This building is called Ssamziegil, As I mentioned, one of my highlight of Ssamziegil are the ramps that allow you to do window shopping while climbing comfortably towards the top without using the stairs.
At the top of the Ssamziegil Mall, look for the two fences filled with love notes and locks. It is one of the busiest corner in the mall.
If you keep walking down another level, and you will be met with a shop which rents free hanbok costumes. There is a huge range of traditional costumes available, including the Joseon King’s costume. Complete your costume with a nice traditional hair accessory and you are ready to take your photos sticker ! But you have to pay for the photos.
