one of the 2 Malaysian states in the island of Borneo is not only famous for its tropical landscape and wildlife (such as hornbills or orang utans) only. Hey.. holidays with hornbills or

orangutans, nothing better than that!

Although it was a hot day, I had a wonderful holiday with my family experiencing the “living cultural museum”. There are about 7 attractions namely, the Bidayuh Longhouse, Penan Hut, Orang Ulu Longhouse, Melanau Tall House, Malay House, Iban Longhouse & Chinese Farm House. You will be able to feel the eexperience of being inside in a longhouse, use a real blowpipe ! walking on bamboo

bridges, try their tapioca rice flour maker and see the “real” shrunken head of warriors of their enemies. Wow ! Tribal people are around to explain some of their cultural as well. The twice daily tribal dance performance is a must, showcasing the dances of the major racial groups with air conditioning – a relief from the heat outside. The cultural village is set around a small lake with wooden walkways to each of the attractions.

In July, there is a annual Kuching Rainforest Music Festival attended by many

overseas visitors (a great holiday event, I have been told).

Operating hours is from 9am -5.15pm daily. The Kuching Sarawak cultural shows are approx 11am and 4pm.

My advice is to go in the morning and to go by yourself so you won’t be restricted by tour operating times and cheaper too.

Better still, stay at Damai Puri or Damai Beach Resort, Kuching, your holiday accomodations and walk there. Only takes 7 minutes to get there.
